Registration for The Family Recovery Foundation’s nationwide online programs requires no insurance. Free virtual family therapy covers scheduled live sessions, family support groups, coaching by appointment, educational materials, and private messaging support. Treatment fees, detox, residential care, and emergency response fall outside that offer.

What free virtual family therapy includes

Experienced facilitators and certified counselors lead the recurring live programs. The Family Recovery Foundation is clinically facilitated and has a Christian faith-based orientation. Educational materials cover addiction science, family communication, codependency, boundaries, and planning for a loved one’s return from treatment.

Live access follows the published schedule. Coaching requires an appointment. The 24/7 feature is private messaging with the clinical and peer support team, not an on-demand emergency therapy session.

Start with one session.

Live sessions that fit your schedule

Fix Your Family is the strongest starting point if you are unsure which program to choose. This national signature program meets weekly. It teaches concrete ways to communicate and set boundaries while staying connected to the person you love.

The Family Room fits families who want open conversation instead of a structured lesson. You can share what is happening, listen to other families, ask questions, and get guidance from peer advocates who have personal experience with recovery.

Morning Meditation offers the most frequent live contact. Each weekday session lasts 15 minutes. That makes it practical when work, school, caregiving, or treatment appointments fill the rest of your day.

The Courage to Detach meets once a month and addresses a narrower problem. Choose it when you need help loving a family member without enabling substance use, taking over their responsibilities, or ignoring your own wellbeing.

The online meetings schedule lists the recurring sessions. Times are published in Central and Pacific time, so check the time in your location before joining.

What stays outside the free program

The no-cost offer has a defined scope. It covers access to TFRF’s family programming. It does not turn the foundation into a residential treatment center, detox program, outpatient clinic, or crisis hotline.

Included at no costSeparate or outside the program
Scheduled online family therapy and support sessionsResidential, outpatient, or detox treatment
Online family support groupsEmergency medical or psychiatric response
1-on-1 family coaching by appointmentAutomatic approval or payment for outside treatment
Private family messaging supportA replacement for 911 or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Twelve educational modules and family worksheetsProfessional intervention services without a separate funding process

Financial aid for treatment and intervention services uses a separate application. Registration for free family programming does not create a funding award. Families seeking help with treatment costs should complete the financial aid application so the team can review that request through the proper process.

The foundation also operates separately from organizations with similar names. The Family Recovery Foundation described here is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit offering free online family support nationwide. It is not the Ohio organization known as Family Recovery Center.

Where your family should begin

Choose the program that matches the problem you need to address this week. You do not need to wait for your loved one to enter treatment before seeking family support.

Pick Fix Your Family when conflict or unclear boundaries are affecting daily life. Pick The Family Room when you want to talk openly, hear from other families, and ask questions. Choose Morning Meditation for a short weekday practice that keeps you emotionally steady. Choose The Courage to Detach if you have been taking responsibility for another person’s substance use or recovery. Request 1-on-1 family coaching when your situation needs a focused plan with a certified counselor. Use the education modules when a loved one is using substances, entering treatment, or preparing to return home.

The twelve-module Intensive Family Program gives you a structured option between live sessions. Topics include the definition of addiction, the central nervous system, codependency, difficult conversations, connective boundaries, gaslighting, and the transition home after treatment.

Two worksheets turn that education into a written plan. The Relapse Prevention Plan addresses warning signs and responses. The Family Support Plan helps your household decide what support, boundaries, and communication will look like.

You can combine formats. For example, you might attend Fix Your Family each Monday, use Morning Meditation during the week, and request coaching when a specific family decision needs more focused guidance.

What happens after registration

You do not need insurance to register for the free online programs. The registration process collects basic contact information and asks who the support is for.

After registration, you will receive a confirmation email with session times and links for joining. Save that message. If it does not appear in your inbox, check your spam or promotions folder before requesting another copy.

The online contact form is not HIPAA compliant. TFRF discloses that information submitted through the form is sent by encrypted but non-HIPAA-compliant email. Read the disclosure before sharing personal details.

You can also call 888-964-8825. A real person answers every day and can explain the free programs, registration options, coaching appointments, or the separate financial aid process.

When to use emergency or treatment resources

Call 911 if someone is in immediate danger or needs emergency medical care. For suicidal, mental health, or substance use crisis support, call or text 988 or use the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

The Family Recovery Foundation provides ongoing family support. Its private messaging group is available 24/7 for guidance from the clinical and peer support team. Emergencies still belong with 911 or 988.

Families looking for residential, outpatient, or detox programs can search FindTreatment.gov, the federal treatment locator maintained by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. TFRF also accepts separate applications for financial aid related to treatment and professional intervention services.

Use 911 for immediate danger. Call or text 988 for suicidal, mental health, or substance use crisis support. TFRF’s free programs provide ongoing family care rather than emergency response.
