The Family Recovery Foundation offers free virtual family therapy and live online support nationwide, with scheduled sessions every weekday and on selected evenings. If you’re searching for a free online family support group for addiction, you can register without insurance and choose family therapy, peer connection, meditation, or one-on-one coaching.

We serve parents, spouses, siblings, and other loved ones affected by addiction or mental health concerns. You can join while your loved one is using substances, entering treatment, or returning home.

What free online family support options can you join?

Four scheduled programs give you clear times to join, while one-on-one coaching is available by appointment. All listed times are in Central and Pacific time.

Live sessions are led by experienced facilitators and certified counselors. TFRF also offers a private family messaging group that connects registered families with the Clinical Director and trained peer support team 24 hours a day.

You can begin from home.

How is TFRF different from Al-Anon?

Choose TFRF if you want a fixed weekly schedule connected to free virtual family therapy, coaching, family education, and financial aid guidance. Al-Anon may fit better if you specifically want its mutual-support fellowship for people affected by another person’s drinking.

Al-Anon maintains its own electronic meeting directory with meeting formats and access details. Check each listing before attending because Al-Anon manages those meetings separately from TFRF.

TFRF programs support families affected by addiction and mental health concerns, including concerns involving substances other than alcohol. Our clinically facilitated program schedule gives you named sessions with distinct purposes, plus one registration path for related family services.

The practical choice depends on what you need this week. Use TFRF when you want structured family skills or access to a counselor. Use Al-Anon when you want its established mutual-support meeting format focused on the effects of another person’s drinking.

How do you register from anywhere in the country?

Registration follows four steps, and no insurance is required for the free programs.

  1. 1Open the Meetings page, which is our free virtual family therapy hub.
  2. 2Review the session schedule on the Family Programming page and choose the program that fits your current concern.
  3. 3Submit the online registration form for your selected program.
  4. 4Watch for a confirmation email with the session time and link, then check how the listed CT or PT time converts to your time zone.

If you’re unsure which group to choose, use the Get Help form or call 888-964-8825. A real person answers every day and can explain the available family programs.

The Get Help form is not HIPAA compliant, and TFRF discloses this before you submit it. Avoid placing detailed medical records or highly sensitive health information in the form.

Families seeking detox, residential care, or outpatient treatment can ask TFRF about application-based financial aid. The Foundation does not operate those treatment programs. You can also search for providers through SAMHSA’s FindTreatment.gov.

Which program should your family choose first?

Start with Fix Your Family if you aren’t sure. This Monday session covers communication, boundaries, and conflict resolution, which makes it the broadest entry point for families facing repeated tension or broken trust.

  • Choose The Family Room when you want to share an experience, ask a direct question, or hear guidance from peer advocates.
  • Use Morning Meditation when a 15-minute weekday practice fits your schedule better than a longer group.
  • Choose The Courage to Detach when you need to love a family member without enabling substance use or abandoning your own boundaries.
  • Schedule 1-on-1 Family Coaching when your situation needs private attention and a customized recovery plan.
  • Use the Intensive Family Program when you prefer on-demand education. Its 12 modules cover addiction science, codependency, communication, boundaries, gaslighting, relapse prevention, and the return home after treatment.

The Intensive Family Program also includes a Relapse Prevention Plan worksheet and a Family Support Plan worksheet. These resources can help your family put group discussions into writing between live sessions.

TFRF is clinically facilitated and has a Christian faith-based orientation. Review the program details before registering so you know what setting you’re joining.

Pick one first.

Common Questions

Are the online family groups truly free?

Yes. TFRF’s virtual family therapy and online family support programs are free, and no insurance is required. Financial aid for detox, residential treatment, outpatient care, or intervention services has a separate application process.

Can I join from any state?

Yes. The programs are virtual and available nationwide. The published schedule uses Central and Pacific time, so check your local time before the session begins.

Does my loved one have to be in treatment?

No. The programs are designed for families at different stages, including active substance use, treatment entry, long-term recovery, and the transition home after treatment.

Can I receive private support instead of joining a live group?

Yes. One-on-one family coaching is available by appointment with a certified counselor. Registered families can also access the private family messaging group for 24/7 contact with the Clinical Director and trained peer support team.

Is TFRF a treatment center, detox program, or crisis hotline?

No. The Family Recovery Foundation provides ongoing family therapy, support, education, coaching, and financial aid access. For immediate danger or a medical emergency, use 911. For suicidal thoughts or an emotional crisis, call or text 988.

Is this the Family Recovery Center in Ohio?

No. The Family Recovery Foundation is a separate nonprofit organization offering nationwide virtual family programs. Our website is tfrfoundation.org, and our phone number is 888-964-8825.
