Parents and spouses can request free family coaching for addiction without waiting for a loved one to enter treatment. The Family Recovery Foundation offers this 1-on-1 support by appointment, online, from anywhere in the country. No insurance is required. Coaching sits apart from our scheduled weekly groups.

Who can request free family coaching for addiction?

Parents, spouses, siblings, other loved ones, and people in recovery can all request support. The Get Help form asks if you want help for yourself or someone you love. You can note that substance use and mental health concerns are affecting your family.

Published program information does not list insurance or current treatment enrollment as requirements for free programs. Coaching is appointment-based, so submit a request and ask our team to confirm the format fits your situation. We publish no wait-time guarantee.

You do not have to wait until your loved one enters treatment. Our education programs cover what families face while someone is currently using substances, entering treatment, returning home, or working to stay in recovery.

The online Get Help form is not HIPAA compliant. Use it to share basic contact information and request coaching, but leave detailed health records out of your first message.

When should you choose an appointment instead of a weekly group?

Pick 1-on-1 coaching when your family needs focused help with one specific situation. A weekly group fits better when you want recurring support, structured family education, or the chance to hear how other families respond to substance use at home.

Access is the main difference. Weekly groups run at published times. Coaching starts with a request and a scheduled appointment. Ask our team about combining programs if you need focused planning plus recurring group support.

Match the format to the need.

What happens during 1-on-1 family coaching?

You work directly with a certified counselor on a recovery plan built around your family. The appointment gives you room to explain what is happening, name the concern that needs attention first, and talk through practical next steps.

Bring one clear issue. You might ask about setting a boundary, preparing for a hard conversation, responding after a return to substance use, or planning for a loved one’s transition home from treatment. A focused starting point helps the counselor see what you need from that hour.

You can use our family education materials between sessions. The Intensive Family Program includes 12 modules on addiction, codependency, communication, connective boundaries, gaslighting, and the transition home after treatment. A Relapse Prevention Plan and Family Support Plan are available as worksheets.

For a plain-language explanation of how substance use can change the brain and behavior, the National Institute on Drug Abuse overview of addiction offers solid background. Education can help you prepare sharper questions for coaching.

Coaching carries no guaranteed outcome. The counselor helps your family build a plan. No program can promise that another person will enter treatment or stay in recovery.

How do you request a coaching appointment?

Start on the Get Help page at tfrfoundation.org. You can also call 888-964-8825. A real person answers every day.

Open the Get Help page, give basic contact information, and say whether support is for you or a loved one. State that you want free 1-on-1 family coaching for a family affected by addiction. Keep sensitive medical details out of the form because it is not HIPAA compliant. Then watch for a confirmation email with scheduling details and the link to join online.

Keep the form brief.

If you also need financial aid for treatment or intervention services, name that request too. Financial aid follows an application process. Coaching is scheduled by appointment. Naming both needs helps our team route your request to the right programs.

Call 888-964-8825 if the online form fails, a confirmation email never arrives, or you need help choosing between coaching and a weekly group.

What support can you use while waiting for an appointment?

Register for our free weekly online programs and use the on-demand education library. Those options give families recurring contact while a coaching appointment is still being set.

Fix Your Family meets every Monday at 7:00 PM CT / 5:00 PM PT. Led by Beth Durling, MS, CADCII, ICADC, the structured session covers communication strategies, boundary-setting techniques, and conflict resolution skills.

The Family Room meets every Friday at 10:00 AM CT / 8:00 AM PT. Its open format lets family members share experiences, ask questions, and hear from peer advocates who have lived through addiction and recovery in their own families.

Morning Meditation is a 15-minute guided practice, Monday through Friday at 9:00 AM CT / 7:00 AM PT. The Courage to Detach meets on the last Wednesday of each month at 5:00 PM CT / 3:00 PM PT and focuses on loving a family member without enabling substance use.

Registered participants can also use a secure private family messaging group around the clock. The group connects families with our Clinical Director and trained peer support team for guidance between scheduled programs.

What should you do during an emergency or treatment crisis?

Call 911 if someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent medical care. For a mental health, suicide, or substance use crisis, call or text 988. The SAMHSA 988 information page explains what the service provides.

The Family Recovery Foundation provides ongoing family coaching, virtual therapy, education, and online support. We are not a crisis hotline, residential treatment center, detox facility, or emergency medical service.

Our separate financial aid program offers application-based assistance for residential, outpatient, and detox programs. Funding guidance may also be available for professional intervention services. Families searching for providers can use FindTreatment.gov as a national treatment directory.

We are The Family Recovery Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit offering nationwide virtual family support. We are separate from the Ohio Family Recovery Center and other organizations with similar names.

Use the right level of care.
