The current program schedule lists The Family Room on Fridays at 10:00 AM CT / 8:00 AM PT. The Family Room free support group gives families a free nationwide online circle to share what is happening at home, ask direct questions, and hear from peer advocates who have lived through recovery in their own families.

The approved TFRF schedule lists The Family Room on Friday rather than Thursday. Confirm the meeting time in your registration email before joining.

The group sits inside The Family Recovery Foundation’s free online programming for families affected by a loved one’s substance use or mental health concerns. Free programs require no insurance.

What happens in The Family Room free support group?

The meeting uses an open format. Discussion follows the concerns families bring that week. You can share an experience, ask a direct question, or listen to how other families handled a similar situation.

Peer advocates who have faced recovery in their own families offer guidance. Live sessions run with experienced facilitators and certified counselors, so the talk stays on useful family responses instead of judgment or blame.

Bring the real question.

The program offers ongoing family support. Residential treatment, detox, and emergency response sit outside the foundation’s scope. The Ohio Family Recovery Center is a separate organization with no connection to this group.

How does The Family Room differ from Fix Your Family?

Choose The Family Room when you want open conversation about a current family concern. Fix Your Family fits better when you want a structured weekly lesson on communication, boundaries, and conflict.

The difference shows up in practice. An open circle leaves room to discuss what happened at home this week. A structured session teaches a defined set of skills you can practice over time.

Both programs are free and virtual. Families across the country can register without insurance.

Who can join this nationwide online group?

Parents, spouses, siblings, other loved ones, and people in recovery can seek family support through The Family Recovery Foundation. You can reach out for yourself or for someone you love.

Families arrive at different points. A loved one may still be using substances, preparing for treatment, receiving care, or returning home. Educational materials from the foundation cover boundaries, codependency, difficult conversations, recurrence prevention, and the transition home.

How do you join The Family Room online?

Register through The Family Recovery Foundation’s free virtual family therapy hub, The Family Room registration page, or the online meetings page. After you register, a confirmation email arrives with the session time and the link to join.

Set aside a private place where you can speak without sharing another person’s personal information. Bring one current concern and write down the facts you want to discuss. A specific question, such as how to hold a boundary after a loved one asks for money, gives the facilitator a clear place to begin.

Ask about group privacy practices before sharing names, diagnoses, treatment details, or other identifying information. Group support can involve personal stories, so know how a meeting handles confidentiality.

If you need registration help, call 888-964-8825. A real person answers every day.

Which other free family programs are available?

Match the program to the support you need that day. The Family Room gives you open discussion. Other TFRF programs offer structured education, mindfulness practice, private coaching, and ongoing messaging.

Morning Meditation meets Monday through Friday at 9:00 AM CT / 7:00 AM PT. Each guided practice lasts 15 minutes and helps families manage anxiety and emotional reactions.

The Courage to Detach meets on the last Wednesday of each month at 5:00 PM CT / 3:00 PM PT. It focuses on loving someone without enabling substance use, setting boundaries with compassion, and protecting your own wellbeing.

One-on-one family coaching is available by appointment. Families can also use a private messaging group with TFRF’s Clinical Director and trained peer support team, access family education on demand, or work through the 12-module Intensive Family Program.

Support can begin before treatment.

What should you do during an emergency?

Call 911 when someone faces immediate danger or a medical emergency. For suicidal thoughts or a mental health or substance use crisis, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

The 988 information provided by SAMHSA explains how the service works. The Family Room provides ongoing family support. Emergency care requires trained crisis responders.

Families seeking treatment options can also use FindTreatment.gov, a national locator managed by SAMHSA. The Family Recovery Foundation separately offers application-based financial aid for residential, outpatient, detox, and intervention services.
